Trying to locate some of the guys from my days in Germany. Was assigned to OL5, 601st Tactical Control Squadron from Jul '61 to our disbanding in summer of '62. We were billeted at an Army ASA base in Herzogenaurach with our radar site located at Mausdorf. One of the guys was Capt. Donald J. Campbell. At the time, he was in charge of our back-up generator maintenance, among other duties. A great guy who loved to regale us with stories of his time working his way through college....

Looking for Harlingen MTI circa 1960-61

Today is the 48th anniversary of the graduation of Harlingen AFB UNT class 61-09. More than 80% of the class were aviation cadets. Many of this class were personally touched by a military training instructor: Lt. James L. Staton. The spelling could have been Statton and we are not positive about the middle initial. Any assistance in locating the former Lt. Staton would be deeply appreciated.

GPS Satellite Failures

The GAO has released a report indicating very real problems with the GPS system due to satellites beginning to fail next year.

From the GAO report:
"In summary, it is uncertain whether the Air Force will be able to acquire new satellites in time to maintain current GPS service without interruption. If not, some military operations and some civilian users could be adversely affected. In addition, military users will experience a delay in utilizing new GPS capabilities,...

Does anyone know if B-17 navigators performed their duties standing up?

Does anyone know if B-17 navigators performed their duties standing up? Pictures of the nose section show a chair, but I've heard that many navigators removed them. I'd guess that this gave them more room to move around. Does anyone recall?

Steve is currently trying to reproduce the Memphis Belle Nav Table, and is trying to obtain its original specs and Nav related task on a bombing mission.

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force is performing a detailed restoration of the B-17F "Memphis Belle" and needs help from AFNOA members who flew B-17Fs. The Belle was brought back to Wright-Patterson AFB three years ago because it was badly in need of a major restoration. We are doing extensive research to make the restoration as accurate as possible and to configure the aircraft as it looked upon completion of its 25th mission.

Restoration TC-47B Nav Station

Hoping you folks can help me in restoring our C-47 Nav Station. The Yankee Air Museum in Ypsilanti, Michigan has owned and operated, for over twenty years, the C-47 44-76716, originally delivered as a TC-47B. The original Nav Station in the forward area of the cabin remains to include the driftmeter and the work table. I have nothing else to go on as to what else belongs there. The only picture I can find is not to specific from the pilots T.O. -1 of the area with the Oxygen equipment.
